After studying dance for 20 years, Tamara turned to yoga as a means of going beyond a purely physical practice to one that equally captivated her mind. Tamara is a Canadian film and television actress. She is a three-time Gemini Award nominee for Best Actress in a Continuing Leading Dramatic Role, having garnered nominations at the 16th Gemini Awards in 2001 and the 17th Gemini Awards in 2002 for her role in The Associates, and at the 18th Gemini Awards in 2003 for her role in Blue Murder.
Tamara was introduced to yoga through the Ashtanga system which she studied for ten years. She decided to deepen her understanding of the practice by enrolling in a YogaWorks 200 HR Teacher Training led by Natasha Rizopoulos. Natasha broadened Tamara's understanding of the postures through the emphasis of alignment and helped her approach the practice with more precision and thoughtfulness. She went on to assist Natasha in many teacher trainings and workshops which she continues to do today. Tamara has also studied the Iyengar method with Patricia Walden.
Tamara
Tamara spent her childhood on Prince Edward Island performing in dance shows and piano recitals. She spent summer after summer watching Anne of Green Gables in Charlottetown, imagining herself on stage. After majoring in Dance in Toronto and exploring the world of Music Theatre via Disney's Beauty & The Beast, she turned her attention to Film & TV. She worked steadily in TV, garnering Gemini nominations (Canada's Emmy's) for Best Actress in a Leading Role three years in a row. Wanting to deepen her craft, she pursued her M.F.A. at American Repertory Theatre at Harvard University. Tamara currently works in Film, TV and Theatre. She never did perform in Charlottetown's Anne of Green Gables.
